Driveway sealing in Westmoreland, on a clean slab

Our crew seals driveways in Westmoreland, in Sumner County, and across our six-town area. Sealer locks in whatever's underneath it, dirt included, so the driveway gets cleaned first, left to dry, and only then does the sealer go down, rolled on in even coats.

What we seal

  • Concrete driveways
  • Exposed-aggregate driveways and walks
  • Covered porches and patios
  • Cleaning first, every time

The method

Clean, dry, then seal

Concrete is porous. Left bare it soaks up water, oil and whatever else lands on it, which is where most of its stains come from. A sealer fills those pores near the surface, so the next spill sits on top long enough to be cleaned up.

On exposed aggregate the change is easy to see: the stones darken and the color comes up, close to how the surface looked when it was wet. The photos here show that finish, and one of them shows the sealer being rolled on.

Sealing over dirt or damp concrete traps the problem under the coat, which is why the clean is part of the job rather than an optional extra.

Timing

Weather and curing

Sealer needs dry concrete and a dry forecast, so sealing jobs are scheduled around rain. If the weather turns, the date moves rather than the job being rushed.

Once it is down, the surface needs time to cure before it takes foot traffic, and longer before a car. How long depends on the product and the temperature, and you will get a clear answer on the day.

FAQ

Driveway sealing questions

How soon can the driveway take a car?
It depends on the sealer and the weather. You will be told on the day, and it is worth waiting the full time: tire marks in a sealer that has not cured do not come back out.
Does the driveway have to be cleaned first?
Yes. Sealing over dirt seals the dirt in. The clean is part of every sealing job.
How often does a driveway need resealing?
It depends on traffic, sun and the product. We would rather look at the surface and tell you than quote a number of years that may not fit your driveway.
Can you seal a porch or patio too?
Yes. Covered porches and patios in concrete or exposed aggregate are sealed the same way. One of the photos on this page is a sealed porch floor.
