Roof cleaning in White House, the soft way
Our crew handles roof cleaning in White House, in Robertson County, and across our six-town area. Dark streaks on a shingle roof are usually growth living on the roof, not dirt sitting on it, so our roof washing uses low pressure rather than a high-pressure blast, because pressure strips the granules that protect a shingle.
What a roof wash covers
- Asphalt shingle roofs
- Black streaks and green growth
- Ridge caps and roof edges
- Metal roofs
- Gutter faces below the roof line
The method
Solution first, then a rinse
A shingle is a mat coated in small granules, and those granules are what keep sun and weather off it. A pressure washer knocks them loose. Soft washing puts a cleaning solution on the roof at low pressure, lets it work on the growth, and rinses it off, so the shingle is cleaned without being worn down.
The streaks tend to start where a roof stays shaded and damp longest: north-facing slopes, sections under trees, and the lower edges where water runs off slowly.
The photos here were taken on real roof jobs, including one partway through, with the solution still working on the shingles.

Getting up there
Tell us about the roof
Steep pitches, second and third stories, skylights, solar panels and fragile ridge vents all change how a roof wash is set up. Mention anything like that when you call, so the quote reflects the real job.
Roof washing pairs naturally with a house wash, because anything that runs off the roof ends up on the siding. If both need doing, the roof goes first.
FAQ
Roof washing questions
- Will washing damage the shingles?
- Soft washing is used on roofs precisely because it avoids the pressure that damages shingles. The cleaning is done by the solution, and the rinse is low pressure.
- How long until the streaks come back?
- It depends on how much shade and moisture the roof sees. We will not promise a number of years, because a roof under trees and a roof in full sun behave differently.
- Do you wash metal roofs?
- Yes. Most of what we see is asphalt shingle, but metal roofs get washed too. The video on our main pressure washing page is Mitchell on a metal roof.
- Can the roof and the house be done together?
- Yes, and it is the usual order: roof first, then the siding, so nothing from the roof ends up on clean walls. Ask for both when you request a quote.
